UpPromote Pricing and Review: Features, Pros, Cons & Costs

A 4.9 rating across 3,818 reviews makes UpPromote one of the best-reviewed apps on the Shopify App Store. Scores like that usually hide nothing useful, so the complaint that survives them is the one worth reading.

Here it is, in a merchant’s own words: the app charges a commission on every sale, which gets expensive at scale. That is the entire pricing story in one line.

Below are the four plans, the fee that sits on top of each one, the revenue levels where upgrading pays for itself, and what the app does not do.

UpPromote Overview

UpPromote Overview

UpPromote is an affiliate and referral marketing app built for Shopify by Secomapp. Merchants use it to turn customers, creators and partners into affiliates, then track the sales those affiliates drive through links and discount codes.

The workflow is simple on purpose. You create a program, set commission rules, recruit affiliates through a branded signup page, and hand each one a unique link or coupon. Sales attributed to them show up in the dashboard, and payouts go out through PayPal or by bank transfer.

It is affiliate infrastructure rather than an influencer platform. Finding creators, checking their audience and running outreach are separate problems, which is why merchants often pair it with something from a Shopify influencer app guide rather than treating it as the whole program.

Who Should Use UpPromote

The fit is wide at the small end and narrower as you grow:

  • Shopify merchants starting an affiliate program: The free plan runs a real program, not a trial.
  • Brands with existing customers to convert: Turning buyers into affiliates needs a signup page and codes, which is exactly what this does.
  • Creator programs paid on commission: Unique coupon codes per creator make attribution clean without any tracking links.
  • Teams running several programs at once: Ambassadors, affiliates and creators can each have their own terms and commission rules.
  • Merchants who want low fixed costs: Paying mostly on results suits a program that has not proven itself yet.
  • Stores on Shopify only: Everything here assumes Shopify, so a second platform means a second solution.

Key Features

Multiple Affiliate Programs

Paid plans allow unlimited programs, each with its own commission structure, terms and signup page. That matters more than it sounds. Paying an influencer 20% and a loyal customer 10% inside one system keeps you from running two tools.

Auto-Generated Coupon Codes

Every affiliate gets a unique discount code, created automatically. Codes beat links for creator programs because they survive being read out in a video, and they attribute the sale even when someone types the URL directly. The Free and Growth plans limit you to one coupon per affiliate, while Professional and above remove the cap.

Referral Links and Tracking

Standard link tracking with Facebook Pixel support, postback URLs and an API for anything custom. There is also third-party tracking for pages not built on Shopify, which patches the obvious hole without really solving it.

Commission Rules and Auto-Tiers

Commission can be set by program, and auto-tier rules promote affiliates to better rates once they hit targets. It is a good motivation tool. The known limit is granularity: merchants report not being able to set different commission rates for individual products from the dashboard.

Affiliate Recruitment

A branded application page collects applications, and a partner-matching tool helps surface people to approach. Customisation of those pages is limited, which reviewers mention regularly, so expect the page to look close to your brand rather than exactly like it.

Creator Discovery Add-On

Creator search is sold separately, starting at $39 a month on top of your plan. Treat it as an extra line rather than a feature, and compare it with dedicated discovery tools before adding it.

Payouts

Affiliates get paid through PayPal, bank transfer or cheque, manually or on an automatic schedule. It is functional and it covers the basics. A brand paying creators across several countries will find it thinner than dedicated affiliate payment tools with built-in invoicing and low-fee transfers.

Performance Analytics

Clicks, conversions, order value and per-affiliate performance, with sorting and graphs. Enough to see who is working and who is not, which is the job. Nothing here covers audience quality or content performance.

UpPromote Pricing

Four plans, all cheap, all carrying a performance fee except the free one. The subscription is the small number and the fee is the big one, so read both columns together.

PLAN MONTHLY ANNUAL PERFORMANCE FEE MAIN LIMIT
Free $0 $0 None 1 program, $3,000 referral sales reviewed/month
Growth $29.99 $299.90 ($24.99/mo) 2% of referral sales 300 referral reviews/month, 1 coupon per affiliate
Professional $89.99 $899.90 ($74.99/mo) 1.5% of referral sales 600 referral reviews/month, unlimited coupons
Enterprise $199.99 $1,999.90 ($166.66/mo) 1% of referral sales Unlimited approvals, staff accounts, multi-store sync
Creator Discovery From $39 - - Optional add-on, sold on top of any plan

Free Plan

$0 a month with no performance fee, which is unusually generous. What you get:

  • One affiliate program
  • Up to $3,000 in referral sales reviewed per month
  • One coupon per affiliate
  • 50MB of media space
  • Unlimited affiliates

Growth Plan

$29.99 a month, or $299.90 a year at $24.99 a month, plus 2% of successful referral sales. What it adds:

  • Unlimited affiliate programs
  • 300 referral reviews per month
  • Auto-tier commission rules
  • Branded affiliate portal

Professional Plan

$89.99 a month, or $899.90 a year at $74.99 a month, plus 1.5% of referral sales. What it adds:

  • 600 referral reviews per month
  • Unlimited coupons per affiliate
  • More automation and customisation options

Enterprise Plan

$199.99 a month, or $1,999.90 a year at $166.66 a month, plus 1% of referral sales. What it adds:

  • Unlimited referral order approvals
  • Unlimited staff accounts
  • Multi-store sync
  • Priority support

The Fee Is the Real Price

Run the numbers and the plan names stop mattering. Every upgrade buys you a 0.5 percentage point cut in the fee, so each one pays for itself at a specific revenue level.

Growth to Professional costs $60 more a month and saves 0.5% of referral sales, so it breaks even at $12,000 of referral revenue a month. Professional to Enterprise costs $110 more and saves the same 0.5%, so it breaks even at $22,000 a month. Below those points you are paying for headroom you are not using.

The bigger point is what you pay at scale. At $100,000 a month in referral sales on Enterprise, the fee is $1,000 and the subscription is $200, so the software costs $14,400 a year and almost none of that is the plan. Compare that against Shopify influencer platforms charging a flat monthly fee, because past roughly $50,000 a month in referral revenue the percentage model stops being the cheap option.

UpPromote Reviews

UpPromote holds 4.9/5.0 (Shopify App Store, 3,818 reviews) and 4.9/5.0 (Capterra, 202 reviews). That is one of the largest review bases of any app in this category, and the scores are consistent across both.

Support is the theme that comes up most, described as fast, patient and thorough, which matches a product aimed at merchants setting up their first affiliate program. Setup is described as straightforward even for people who have never run one. The criticisms are narrow and repeat: the performance fee gets expensive at scale, commission rates cannot be set per product from the dashboard, navigation hides settings in places people do not expect, and signup page customisation is limited.

Integrations

The list is long for an app at this price. Five that matter most:

  • Shopify: Native, and the whole app is built around it, with orders and discount codes syncing automatically.
  • Klaviyo: Moves affiliate and customer data into email flows so recruitment can run through your existing campaigns.
  • PayPal: Handles affiliate payouts, individually or in bulk on a schedule.
  • Recharge: Attributes subscription orders to affiliates, which matters if your revenue is recurring.
  • Facebook Pixel: Tracks affiliate-driven traffic and conversions alongside your paid activity.

Mailchimp, Omnisend, Recurpay, Loop Subscriptions, Appstle, EComposer and several chat tools are also supported, plus an API and postback URLs for custom setups.

Pros of UpPromote

You Can Start for Nothing

A free plan with unlimited affiliates and no performance fee is rare, and it is enough to run a real program up to $3,000 of monthly referral sales. Most brands can prove the channel works before spending anything, which removes the usual argument about budget for an unproven idea.

Coupon Codes Done Properly

Automatic unique codes per affiliate, uncapped from the Professional plan up, make creator attribution clean. A creator reads the code out, the buyer types it, and the sale lands in the right place. Link-based tracking loses that sale every time.

Support People Actually Praise

Across nearly 4,000 reviews, responsive support is the single most repeated point. For a merchant configuring commission rules and payout schedules for the first time, that is worth more than an extra feature, and it is the hardest thing for a competitor to copy.

Cons of UpPromote

The Percentage Grows With You

This is the cost trap. The plan looks like $29.99 and behaves like a revenue share, and the fee rises exactly as the program succeeds. At $50,000 a month in referral sales on Professional you are paying $750 in fees against a $90 subscription. Forecast your referral revenue twelve months out and price the fee against a flat monthly platform before you commit.

Shopify or Nothing

The app is built for Shopify and everything assumes it. Third-party tracking exists for pages outside Shopify, but a brand on WooCommerce, BigCommerce or a custom build is not the buyer here, and a second sales channel means a second tool and split reporting.

No Creator Layer Without Paying More

There is no creator search, no audience demographics and no fake-follower screening in the app itself, and the discovery add-on starts at $39 a month on top. Vetting who you recruit still happens elsewhere, usually in dedicated influencer discovery tools, and nothing here runs outreach sequences.

Configuration Hits a Ceiling

Commission cannot be set per product from the dashboard, signup pages allow only limited customisation, and settings are scattered in ways that slow down routine work. None of it is fatal. All of it is the kind of friction that gets louder as your program gets more complicated.

Is UpPromote Worth It?

For a Shopify brand starting out, it is one of the easiest recommendations in this category. You can launch free, the coupon tracking is solid, the support is genuinely good, and nearly 4,000 reviews at 4.9 mean you are not taking a risk on an unknown.

The picture changes with volume. The performance fee scales with your success, discovery and outreach are missing or sold separately, and the whole thing stops at Shopify. A brand doing serious referral revenue ends up paying app-store prices for infrastructure and enterprise prices in fees, without getting the creator program that should sit around it.

Brands weighing the upgrade usually compare these:

  • Influencer Hero: Runs influencer discovery, outreach, gifting, affiliate codes and payouts on one flat monthly fee with no cut of your sales, and adds creator storefronts that turn one-off collaborations into recurring revenue.
  • Afluencer: Solves the recruitment half, with creators applying to your listings and audience stats attached to every applicant.
  • Refersion: An affiliate platform with deeper reporting and its own affiliate marketplace for finding partners.
  • Social Snowball: Built around turning customers into affiliates automatically, with instant payouts and coupon-code tracking.
  • GoAffPro: A lightweight affiliate app with a generous free tier and a branded affiliate portal.

Final Thoughts

This one splits cleanly by size. A Shopify store launching its first affiliate or creator program should use it, probably on the free plan, and worry about the rest later. A brand pushing tens of thousands a month through referral sales is paying a tax on its own growth, and should price that tax against a flat monthly platform that also handles finding and contacting creators. Work out your monthly referral revenue, multiply by the fee on your plan, and if that number is bigger than a subscription elsewhere, the UpPromote alternatives are worth a serious look.

FAQ
How much does UpPromote cost?
Plans are free, $29.99, $89.99 and $199.99 a month, dropping to $24.99, $74.99 and $166.66 on annual billing. Paid plans also charge a performance fee of 2%, 1.5% or 1% of successful referral sales, and a Creator Discovery add-on starts at $39 a month.
Does UpPromote take a commission on sales?
Yes, on every paid plan. Growth takes 2% of successful referral sales, Professional 1.5% and Enterprise 1%. Only the free plan has no performance fee, and it caps reviewed referral sales at $3,000 a month.
When is it worth upgrading?
Each upgrade cuts the fee by half a percentage point. Growth to Professional pays for itself at about $12,000 of monthly referral sales, and Professional to Enterprise at about $22,000. Below those levels the cheaper plan costs less overall.
Does UpPromote work outside Shopify?
Not really. The app is built for Shopify and its core tracking depends on it. Third-party tracking and postback URLs cover pages hosted elsewhere, but merchants on other platforms are not the intended user.
Can UpPromote find influencers for me?
Only through the paid Creator Discovery add-on, from $39 a month. The app itself handles recruitment through a signup page and partner matching, with no audience demographics, fake-follower screening or outreach sequences included.
